Kong Vinter
Storm Egon Blows the Kong Vinter Away
News Release / 12.01.2015

It's always a shame when races are shut down by extreme weather, as happened to the Kong Vinter race in Denmark over the weekend, but it's a call that has to be made sometimes.
Race Directors Sanne Elidsbo Hansen and Mikkel Frese explain what happened when storm Egon hit. (There were floods in parts of the country and many closed bridges and ferry routes.)
Whew, what a storm! First of all thanks to all participants and crew! Thank you for your happy smiles and your pat on the back when Egon blew a little too much.
What happened?
Egon put us to a test, but we managed to get all challenge teams through the route we had planned for them! Winners were ATventure who completed the route in 8 hours.
Another aspect was Master route. Sanne and Mikkel chose to stop Master's race from Kongsøre TA2. No winners has been announced jet because of that reason.
It was a very difficult decision because when is it enough and when is it not? But when it began to blow up, snow and lightning there was no doubt! We wanted you home and it could not go fast enough! Therefore, all crew were deployed to get you into cars and a major logistics game was launched. We did not feel well before we were sure where everyone was and that all were in good standing. Big thanks to all who helped and thank you for all the smiles and pats on the back.
What should happen now?
We wish a fair ending and result of the race – as fair as we can manage. We have therefore put our heads together and will have a chat with Danish Adventure Race Union about how we do the fairest of results. The results will be up - the latest Friday on e-mail, website and Facebook.
