OtterBox Challenge to Test Elite Racers

More than three hundred of competitors will run, kayak, mountain bike, abseil their way around Tai Lam Chung on Sunday 10 May 2015 in the 17th Hong Kong edition (and 27th Asian edition) of the ‘OtterBox Action Asia Challenge’.
‘’I’ve heard it is one of the hardest and most hard-core adventure races in Hong Kong,” said Chih Yun from Taiwan, who will compete next weekend in the full adventure category with his Japanese friend Hirano Keiko. He will use the race as a chance to face off against stiff competition while enjoying a holiday, he says.
Despite government officials clamping down on adventure racing in the city, Action Asia Events has secured three challenging race categories for outdoor enthusiasts in this historic race: a 15km technical and steep trail run, a kayak and run event (7km run followed by a 5km kayak) and a full 30km adventure course for the diehards.
In the full course, competitors will travel over 30 km via a combination of trail running, mountain biking, abseiling and ocean kayaking.
“It was a really nice technical run for me,’’ said Ryan Blair, the overall team winner in 2014, of the race last year. “The course design was excellent,” he added.
Avid adventure racer Cosmo Richards, 3rd overall in team category last year, is also looking forward to the course’s “well marked” and “excellent” design. “It was a nice race and an excellent course last year. I am really looking forward to racing again this year. I still remember how well marked the whole course was as I didn’t once feel confused.”
Although the ‘Kayak and Run’ category sold out shortly after entry opened, slots are still available for the trail run and full adventure categories for those who get in quickly.
Given Action Asia Event’s close relationship with Nepal, having held numerous events in the country over the years, all funds donated to Action Asia Foundation as part of race registration from 25 April 2015 to 10 May 2015 will be donated to Red Cross Nepal and to fund disaster relief supplies urgently needed.
