This Sunday, July 19th, 2015, the 18th edition of the Craft BIKE Transalp powered by Sigma will kick off at 9 AM on the main street (Hauptstraße) in Ruhpolding, just in front of Cafe Heigermoser. Some 500 teams of two and therefore about 1,000 participants will take up the challenge of crossing the main ridge of the Alps within seven days.

The field consisting of starters from 40 countries – including international pros as well as hundredths of amateurs – has to master a total distance of 611.27 km and 19,002 metres of climbing to reach the finish line in Riva del Garda, Italy.

The most racers, who are keen to meet this challenge, come from Germany (more than 300). But also Austria (76), Holland (66), Italy (64), Switzerland (55) and Belgium (54) are well-represented.

Athletes from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mauritius, United Arab Emirates, Botswana, South Africa or New Zealand create some international flair while also underlining the importance of the Craft BIKE Transalp powered by Sigma in the scene.

The most teams of two will start in the Men category (more than 150) while about 15 duos are registered in the Women classifier, more than 60 teams in the Mixed category, about 130 teams in the Masters category and some 40 teams in the Grand Masters classification.

Craft BIKE Transalp powered by Sigma

The Craft BIKE Transalp powered by Sigma is the most famous stage race for mountain bike teams of two. From its first edition in 1998 until 2013, the routing led in eight stages from Germany across the main ridge of the Alps to Italy. In 2014, the event featured seven stages for the first time in Transalp history.

In 2015, Race Organisers come up with five stage town debuts (Ruhpolding, Saalfelden Leogang, Mittersill, Sillian and Levico Terme) as well as an almost complete new routing.

From July 19th thru 25th, the registered teams of two will tackle 611.27 km and 19,002 metres of climbing traveling from Ruhpolding via Saalfelden Leogang, Mittersill, Sillian, Alleghe, San Martino di Castrozza and Levico Terme to Riva del Garda.
