Successful Start for the Wild Women Adventure Race

What a fabulous day in the Noosa Hinterland with over 100 intrepid women taking part in the Wild Women Adventure Race.  Teams of 2 trekked, mountain biked and paddled through some stunning Noosa Hinterland scenery from the cosy little town of Pomona, through to picturesque Lake MacDonald for the paddle leg.

The girls ranged from seasoned adventure racers to first-timers and they all displayed massive smiles as they made their way through the course set to highlight some of Noosa’s hidden gems along the Noosa Trail Network.

Stan Topper Park in Pomona was race HQ for the day and local café owners were on hand early to fill up specially designed Wild Women AR travel mugs with the girls’ favourite brews before they set off on the 6-hour event.  Jan & Kim from Tri Adventure – the race organisers – didn’t want to make too much rubbish on the day so they banned take-away coffee cups from the event.

Tourism Noosa was the major sponsor and local adventure race gear supplier, Area 51, supplied competitors with some great Head Cases in their goodie bags.  Emily Miazga from Ems Power Cookies in NZ also supplied some nutrition for the girls in the form of her famous cookie bars.

Race favourites, Cass & Gina from Tri Adventure G & C, took out the win with the Giddy Up Girls, Mandy & Linda, not far behind.  Sharyn & Mez from The Azers rounded out the overall podium. The race had a category for Mums and also one for the over 50’s which was very well populated and that was exciting to Jan & Kim from Tri Adventure.  “We even had a couple of teams who were over 60 – it’s awesome to see these women still racing and doing so well when most women of that age have slowed down considerably!”.

The event ticked over with some help from fantastic volunteers and was also supported by some other generous local businesses – Skirtsports Australia, Have Fun Tours, RACV Noosa Resort, Venture Cycles, Kayak Noosa and Trail 518.  The Cooroy-Pomona Lions Club provided a delicious sausage sizzle to feed the hungry racers.

The Wild Women Adventure Race will be back next year – so to keep informed on race dates and a lead up skills clinic look at www.triadventure.com.au or follow us on Facebook.
