Length: 6 hours
Location: Nobleton, Withlacoochee State Forest
New for 2008 is the Croom Quest Multisport Challenge on April 12. This race for solos and relays will require participants to paddle, mountain bike and trail run on a marked course through the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest. According to Race Director, Kip Koelsch, “We’re particularly excited to add a race that we hope will provide a cross-over to AR from triathlon or from individual disciplines like mountain biking or paddling. We’re also looking to attract those solo adventure athletes that are looking for a special challenge.â€
Croom Quest is a more triathlon-style off-road race featuring river paddling, mountain biking and trail running on a marked course. The start/finish will be at the Nobleton Canoe Outpost. The race will start with a paddle on the Withlacoochee River that will start and finish at Nobleton. Racers will transition to bikes and head to the mountain bike trails—making their way to the TA at the Tucker Hill Fire Tower (racers may stage running gear/coolers in this area early Saturday morning). Racers will run a loop on the Florida Trail (there will be one aid station approximately mid-way on the run) and then transition back to bikes at Tucker Hill. The race will conclude with a trail ride back to Nobleton with a possible surprise near the finish line.
We anticipate that the fast racers will spend 90-120 minutes in each discipline (the two bike legs will be added to total 90-120 minutes). As we finalize the exact course, we will post mileages as well. Maps of the course will be available online sometime prior to the race.
