El Reto de los Volcanes (The Challenge of the Volcanoes)

Location: Volcanoes of the Central Valley of Costa Rica
The Race
El Reto de los Volcanes Rock Shox is a multi-stage race that will count in its second edition of three stages in the slopes of three of the main volcanoes of Costa Rica: Irazú, Barva and Poas. The race is open as much to \"Elite\" riders that will be able to earn important prizes and to all cyclist who enjoy to participate in good competitions and/or to know the best places of Costa Rica over their bikes.
There will be three stages, all in the Central Valley of Costa Rica.
The first stage will start in a small town called Cot, just 3 miles north from Cartago and 12 miles east from our capital: San Jose. This stage, with a total distance of 35 miles around the Irazu Volcano will be an excellent preview from which will come in the following days.
For the second stage, we will move to Birri town, in the province of Heredia, specifically to Hotel Monte Campana, where this stage will begin. It will have an hard climbing section to Barva Volcano before the descend to the town of San Pedro de Poas, in the neighborhoods of the Alajuela city. The total distance for this stage will be around 45 miles.
The last stage, with total distance of about 40 miles, will begin in San Pedro de Poas with a ascent in the middle of beautiful landscapes towards the Poas volcano that has the widest crater in the world, once the the Poas crater is reached, we will have the most exciting and technical downhill section of the race that goes tought a highland primary forest and let us near Grecia. Here, the course goes up again before start the last downhill to the finish line located in San Pedro de Poas.
This year, with your participation you will be collaborating with several social works to be made in the San Pedro de Poas community
