Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon (LAMM) 2010

The LAMM is a 2-day mountain orienteering event that takes place each year in the Scottish Highlands. The emphasis is always on challenging routes in classic high mountain country. In 2009, the event was on the bigs hills of Kintail. This year will be a "South" year for the LAMM and it’s a great opportunity for those who don't usually have enough time for the journey to the north of Scotland, to join us at a magnificant location only 1½ hours drive north of Glasgow/Edinburgh. Our planner this year is Andy Spenceley, well known to Mountain Marathoners and fell runners alike. Andy planned the excellent courses at Inchnadamph in 2006 and Glenfinnan in 2008. The emphasis is always on challenging routes in classic high mountain country. The 2010 area is scattered with Munros and Corbetts and we've worked hard to find a site for the Midcamp that allows us to make best use of the area and provide great courses. The Midcamp will be a wild mountain location at 400m - we daren't give away any more clues ..... Suffice to say, this LAMM bears all the hallmarks of another “Connoisseurs Mountain Marathon†and we're getting excited about it already! Since 1994 the event has visited these wonderful locations:
We limit the number of teams to 500 and the event always fills to capacity. The limit ensures that we are able to visit fine venues that might otherwise be impossible to use. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere on Friday night at the Event Centre camping field allows friends to meet up and old acquaintances to be renewed. Wilf's Outdoor Catering provides Friday evening meals in the marquee and a post event meal.
We like to make our event exciting and build a sense of anticipation. Apart from providing an approximate travelling time, we keep the venue secret until just before the event so that the area is a 'surprise' to all competitors. We have been known to move 1000 of you up to 40 miles on the Saturday morning to an unexpected start so that you can enjoy the challenge of running over the mountains for two days as you head over the hills to finish back at the Event Centre.
