Length: 700 km
Location: Outer Hebrides (Western Isles), NW Scotland
Website: www.hebrideanchallenge.com
Approx Distances for team races (see website for pairs info). Also bare in mind that this race is essentially a relay and not continuous (stops over-night), so relativly fast pace and lots of transitions (tags):

Hill Running: 170KM + 10000M Ascent

Road Bike: 320KM + 1100M Ascent

Mountain Bike: 85KM + 1300M Ascent

Sea Kayaking 150KM (for 5 person teams)

Swimming 3.5KM

NB Four person team race is the 5 person team race without the kayaking.

The estimated aggregate winning time will be approximately 60 hours and each team member will compete for about 20 hours throughout the 5 days (many legs involve more than one competitor).

Classes: To qualify for a prize teams must include one opposite sex person.(We do accept single sex teams -either sex- but they cannot qualify for a prize). Disabled teams and members with suitable experience welcomed.

Suitable for: All levels with suitable fitness and navigational skills - all entries vetted for suitability.

Late Entries: A shortlist will operate when full

Disciplines and Qualifications: BCU 4* SEA certificate (NOT inland equivalent) for at least one team member required, or HM Forces or foreign equivalent. (Paddling c.v.s may be accepted in certain unusual circumstances, at organisers discretion). Hill-running, Mountain Biking, Road Cycling, Swimming. (Kayaking and Hill-running are the most navigationally demanding).

A kayaking training/assesment weekend will be held in N Wales, probably in April which will be open to potential competitors - costs and exact itinerary to be announced.

The Hebridean Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the top 5 person team. There will be other prizes for 4 person and pairs teams + awards for hill running TT, best aggregate swimming times etc. Last year prizes of gear were also awarded by ballot.

This race is known both for the stunning scenery and teams physical and logistical challenges (and the food at the overnight stops!). The team members must organise themselves to kayak, run, cycle and swim the length of the Isles, via various checkpoints, whilst supporting themselves using only 1 team vehicle (usually a minibus).

Entry form and further details available on the website such as: Itinery, Rules, Webcast, Newsletter, Mailgroup, Forum, Galleries.
