Participants navigate on foot, mountain bike, and optional watercraft for either 6 or 12 hours. The foot navigation section visits pine forests with varied terrain including deep canyons and undulating rolling hills. On the mountain bike, participants follow forest service roads and trails through several areas of the forest. The water sections require participants to navigate to several mandatory destinations using either human power (on flat water) or on foot. Traveling on the water is optional, but those who choose not to travel on the water must reach the same destinations on foot.
