“Only If You're Tough Enough” – This is the new benchmark for one day multisport races and without a doubt NZ's toughest one day multisport challenge!
The "James" Macpac Mountainman is basically a full-on off road multisport event of Ironman proportions: Swim 2km or kayak 10km, MTB 100km & finishing with a 50km cross country run all in the Southern Alps high country of St James Station behind Hanmer Springs
The Mountainman is "one hell of a day out" in the most epic and amazing NZ scenery of any race.
All within the stunning, epic New Zealand sub alpine high country landscapes of St James Station behind Hanmer Springs. The Mountainman has it all - mountain passes, high country lakes, sweeping tussock high country, beech clad braided river valleys, river crossings, swing bridges and superb single track...
The C2C is no longer "The longest day" and as multiple champion and previous C2C winner Fleur Pawsey will tell you, the James Macpac Mountainman will sure as hell be your hardest day!!! A day which starts at 6am with either a 2km swim in Lake Tennyson or a 10km kayak double circumnavigation of the lake followed by a 100km MTB stage (the full Ground Effect "James" Epic course), and finishing with a 50 km cross country run (3 loops of the Alpine Adventure run stage)!
Make no mistake - The James Macpac Mountainman is to Ironman what Xterra is to Triathlon - a major step up and if you can win this one then you truly can lay claim to being "the best of the best" Ironmen are a dime a dozen and Coast to Coasters 10 a penny, but knock of the Mountainman - Bloody Legend!
