New Caledonia, an authentic island with various wild sceneries, an abundant nature, a mosaic of people and cultures.

From south to north, between land and sea, walking, riding, paddling, cycling, or climbing, 25 international teams are going to live from 28th october to 4th november 2005, an exceptional adventure through the island.

In a total freedom… For this second edition of the Dream Raid, the competitors are going to go through rocky, rough regions, mysterious places. They are going to follow unpredictible torrents notched in the mountains of the “Chaine Centrale”. They are going to rush down gushing falls . They are going to sail with the trade winds, on the blue water of the world’s largest lagoon, under the infinity of the sky, through coral and small white sandy islands, in the mangrove, through the strong and knotty roots. They are going to walk in the deep silence and the darkness of the “rainforest”.

Sailing, walking, pedaling, doubting, running, crying sometimes, sleeping probably… Each team, according to its rhythm, with its head and legs, will live an extraordinary adventure.

Race elements
A starting line and a finishing point approximately 350 km further, 4 to 5 days of intense effort. Compulsory check points for safety and control reasons. A discrete but present organization group. An organization which will give you some challenges but who will never be far and will be attentive to your needs. A strong personal adventure. A thrilling collective experience.

The team
ingenuity, endurance, creativity, tolerance. 4 competitors, with at least one woman in each team, will be self-sufficient and will manage their own progress. Sometimes, for safety reasons, time frames will be set by the organization and the competitors will need to calculate and adopt strategies according to their goals… A team is much more than a group of individuals. It is the result of a mysterious alchemy. The one that will make the difference. this is the first step of the race. The race is open to any team who can justify a previous experience in that kind of competition.
Each team will need a navigator able to direct the team in the wilderness, through the mountains, on the water using only a map, a compass, an altimeter and a GPS.
The competitors will have to be rough, to be able to survive in the wilderness and approach the challenge with simplicity and happily minded.
The teams may have die-hard attitude or be cool & relaxed.
Your choice...

New Caledonia, a land of contrasts
New Caledonia is a small part of France in the South Pacific. Located 1,500 km from Australia and 1700 km from New Zealand, New Caledonia is the 3rd largest island in the Pacific considering its area. Its lagoon is the world’s largest (24,000 km2).
\" La Grande Terre \", the biggest island of the archipelago, is divided by a mountain ridge where wild places still remain. On one side, the West coast is characterised by the niaoulis savana : a paradise for stockmen. On the other side, the East coast where the mountains end up in the lagoon and the tropical forests lay next to nickel mines in a striking contrast of colours. Untouched sceneries are still to be discovered.
