The Ben Lomond Descent is a MTB/paddle/run event with a mass start for each leg, making it more fun for everyone as every leg is a new race and the field is never too split up. The bike leg is one of the all time great MTB courses with a mixture of slippery 4WD track, fast forestry roads, and awesome winding downhill single track with huge optional jumps and the occasional echidna and wombat. The paddle is moderately technical, with the river contantly meandering in tight oxbows with small shingle rapids and the odd willow. Those in multisport boats should be comfortable on rivers like the Derwent, Huon below Judbury or Forth- if not do it in something more stable and manoeuvrable. The final run starts off flat and fast, but ends with a fence hopping paddock-and-bush hill climb before a short steep bramble descent to the finish and the BBQ. This event has been running for years and has a fantastic fun community spirit.
