EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
SMAC 10-HOUR XL ADVENTURE RACE – A DAY-LONG EXPEDITION
When: Mandatory Race Briefing, Friday, July 20, 2007
Race, Saturday, July 21, 2007
Where: Huron Meadows Metropark (race briefing)
Actual location of race will not be released until race briefing
Disciplines: Paddling, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Fixed Ropes, Special Tests
The South Michigan Adventure Club will one again host a summer adventure in Southeast Michigan. This year’s event is scheduled for July 20 – 21, 2007. Everyone from adventure junkies to those just looking for a new challenge can head out to Huron Meadows Metropark south of Brighton, Mich., on July 20 – 21, 2007, for a chance to test their skills at biking, paddling navigation and fixed ropes. There’ll be a few extra surprises thrown into the mix as well.
SMAC’s goal with the XL Adventure Race is to capture the essence of an expedition race – multi-discipline, a focus on navigation and strategy and a concentration on teamwork – in a 10-hour, non-stop event that will test seasoned racers but is also suitable for beginners. Prizes, which will be determined closer to the race date, will be awarded in each division (mm, ff, mf).
SMAC is one of the oldest adventure racing clubs in the country and is known for putting on quality, competitive events. Races tend to sell out, so don’t miss your opportunity to get in on one of the Midwest’s best! Teams of two made up of either males, females or coed, can find out more about the event and register for the race online at www.smacworld.com.
All SMAC events depend heavily on volunteers to work before, during and after the race. Those who might not be ready to race but want to see what it is all about, or those who just like to spend the day out in one of Michigan’s beautiful parks can volunteer.
