Mild Seven Outdoor Quest
A Quick Look at the Teams
Lisa de Speville / 28.10.2004

There are 20 teams at this year’s Mild Seven Outdoor Quest. Many are well known and a few are unfamiliar. There have also been a number of major changes within the big guns - Montrail and Nike ACG-Balance Bar in particular. Unfortunately I’m not yet familiar with the teams from Malaysia, Taiwan, China and Japan.Seagate (New Zealand)
They are racing their standard team composition of Nathan Fa’ave, Richard Usher, Heyden Key and Kristina Anglem (nee Strode-Penny). An AR team with horse-power, Seagate is the reigning champion. But, considering that they have come straight from Subaru Primal Quest (SPQ) in September, the Balance Bar 24-hr race in mid-October and are now competing at MSOQ under extreme conditions, will they have the power to beat their compatriots in iRule or the Finns of Team Nokia?
Nokia Adventure (Finland)
The Finns are racing with an all-male combination – Petri Forsman, Markus Kettunen, Jukka Pinola and Teijo Laasanen - the same team-members as last year. Teijo is their 46-yr old ‘girl’. In 2000, Nokia won MSOQ and every year since have taken second place so they’re hungry for a victory. They’ve had a good season and in the past few months they claimed first place at Explore Sweden (June) and Endurance Quest (August). They were 4th at World Champs in August, missing SPQ.
Eager for a win, they’re still very aware that they’ve got competition. “This year I think there will be about five very good teams racing in the front, commented Petri. “I hope we will be one of them.
iRule (New Zealand)
Like Nokia, iRule is an all-male team. Though they’re down as a New Zealand team, they’re actually sporting an international gang. There’s Marcel Hagener (Germany), Kris Clauson (Australia), Craig Stevens (New Zealand) and Eric Billoud (France). Unfortunately I know little about them except that after today’s performance all eyes will be on them.
