Speights Coast to Coast
Emily, Winner of the World Multi-Sport Championships, Describes Her Race
Emily Miazga / 14.02.2006

Hi Everyone! For those of you who haven\'t heard from me in a while, here\'s a race breakdown of what just happened this last weekend in NZ.Wow it was such an amazing weekend! I cannot believe that I did it. But I did and I am just flying still! I was just interviewed with CBC Radio Canada and can be heard tonight at 6:30 local time in Canada. It will also be online at: www.cbc.ca/aih in a day or 2.
I am the World Multisport Champion ;-))))) I won the Speight\'s Coast to Coast Longest Day!!!
The race started at 6am with the 3k run from Kumara beach. Over the rocks and on to the gravel road to the pavement. Once at the bike transition, which is self-supported you ride 55k to Arthur\'s Pass National Park. I was sitting in a really good position in the main lead pack with all the top men. My race plan was to relax on this ride and do as little work as possible, in the effort to save my legs for the 33k mtn run.
However, I started to feel pretty average, and my stomach was acting up. I think my nerves; the media pressure and the whole build up finally got to me. It was difficult for me to eat, and also I kept finding myself in dodgy places in the pack. I was constantly on the watch for other riders and I couldn\'t get a consistent position to ride in. As a result, I did more work than I planned to, and my legs felt it. It was rainy, but not cold.See All Event Posts
