Racers move across Florida like a storm.

Daylight breaks over Central Florida on Day 2 of the Florida Coast to Coast and Team Mighty Dog extends their lead over the other racers. After enduring the first rains to hit the race venue in over 2 months, Team Mighty Dog spent a scant 2 ½ hours in TA 3 to refuel, refresh and plot the next section of the race. With over a 4 ½ hour lead on the rest of the field Team Mighty Dog is moving across Florida with a speed and determination that reminds one of a hurricane. The team has arrived at Lake Kissimmee around 0800 and shows no sign of slowing their pace.

Team Gerber, the only solo competitor in this year’s field, has moved up to 2nd position. While Gerber has yet to reach TA3 at Lake Hatchineha, he is in position to continue his lead on the rest of the competitors baring any mishaps. After a brief bout with cramps Team Gerber has pushed hard and has reached TA 3 at 0835.

The heat and humidity has taken its toll on teams this year. Team Bike Tech, Team Nature’s Call and Team Gnome Hunters have withdrawn from the competition due to illness. Two teams have been moved over to an abbreviated course due to missing a cut-off time, they are Team Hoof Hearted and Team Golite/Spirit of LA #2. Team Figjam and Team Lunatic Fringe are both now unranked after loosing teammates due to illness, but the remainder of the teams are continuing with the race.

With the start of the holiday weekend the majority of the teams will be sharing the lake with other recreational boaters so safety will be paramount. Remember to check the leader board to see where the teams are on the course.
