The Florida Coast to Coast is in the books and Team Mighty Dog has defended their title. At 0638 the defending champions of the Florida Coast to Coast paddled through the calm waters of Sebastian, FL and beached their kayaks to complete an odyssey that began in Homasassa, FL on the Gulf of Mexico. Looking strong the team exited their boats and got congratulation hugs from their families who are also their support crew. While the weather conspired to cut the sizable lead Team Mighty Dog enjoyed throughout the early sections of the race, they still outpaced their nearest competitor by over 2 ½ hours. Also, the team was the ONLY 4 person elite team to complete the entire race without dropping a member or out of the race.Hitting the beach in 2nd place was Teams Jay Challenge and OAGear.com. This pair of 2 person teams had banded together early in the race and acted virtually as a 4 person team. The strategy seemed to succeed, as their finish shows. Team Remedy came paddling around the dock next to the cheers of the race fans gathered on the beach. Following close behind Team Remedy was Team Dry Socks. Next to complete the race was Team Gerber, the only solo competitor in this year’s race. Completing the teams to finish the race by beaching their kayaks in front of Captain Hiram’s was Team Racephotos/CLC Boats
Teams completing an abbreviated course this year were Team Dominican Republic #1, who always had a smile no matter where on the race course or in what conditions they were in at the time, and Team Golite/SOL #1. Also finishing but unranked are Teams Hoof Hearted and Relentless.
Teams that had injuries or illness and decided to withdraw from the race include Teams Too Blue, Lunatic Fringe, Conch Republicans, Figjam, Golite/SOL #2, Gnome Hunters, Sun Tek, Natures Call and Bike Tek.
