Chasing the Leaders

While leaders Aberdeen Asset Management were enjoying a ride around the Ardgour Peninsula in the sunshine the second and third placed teams were both at Transition 4 at the same time.

The North Face were the first to walk in at 10.50, almost 3 hours behind the leaders. They were looking tired, and looking forward to a sleep.

“That was one tough trek, said Anthony Emmett, “every step was uneven, steep and boggy. We predicted 16 hours and did it in 15 and a half, but took a lot out of us. We could easily stop for a long time now, but with some food and an hours sleep our spirits will lift and we are looking forward to riding for the first time in the race.

“We had good route choices and passed the Swedish team a couple of times as they pushed on and we took better routes. Stephen (Fishers) navigation was superb. They didn’t seem to be enjoying themselves when we spoke, at one point one of them even said we should sell Scotland!

Ali Northcott, in her first long adventure race, was in good spirits but asked the doctor about a sore lower leg that was troubling her. She’s a great Ellen McArthur fan and has a signed copy one of her quotes around here neck for inspiration.

‘It would be easy to say ‘chill out’ when you’re tired but you never have to lose the goal of the finish line. That’s what you set out to do and ... what you stick to.

Its as appropriate for expedition racing as it is for round the world sailing.See All Event Posts
