Adventure ‘O’ For Kids

Running a World Series expedition race is an incredibly complex logistical task, but this year’s Wilderness ARC has managed to incorporate 2 additional events for the local athletes and children of Lochaber.

The first was the open event ‘Raiders of the Wilderness ARC’ which ran alongside the prologue, and today Course Planner Gary Tompsett ran a schools orienteering event in Roy Bridge.

It was held by alongside the Spean River, at a point where the teams in Wilderness ARC cross, and children from Spean Bridge and Invergary primary schools came along to take part.

They were given a pre-printed orienteering map and a Sportident ‘dibber’ attached to their wrist, in the same way racers in the Wilderness ARC are. One of the checkpoints was also reached by a hand rope down to the river where race marshal ‘Pyro’ took them across the river on one of the race kayaks.

Even better they were all given Wilderness ARC buffs at the finish.

It was the best lesson they have had all week, maybe all year!See All Event Posts
