The Wilderness ARC
The ‘Adventure Tourists’
Rob Howard / 02.06.2006

The first of the 5 short coursed teams finished Friday lunchtime, ‘Spirit of Adventure’ arriving first, followed by Spartans. Both had missed the 10.00am cut off at checkpoint 27 and taken the road directly back to race HQ.Spirit of Adventure have been progressing around the course, completing some parts and missing others, getting their sleep at transitions and enjoying as much of the course as they could. “I think we should change the name to ‘Spirit of Moderate Adventure’, said Katherine Poole with a smile.
“We have some serious conditioning to do, added Mike Poole, “but carrying on was a much better option than giving in. We wanted to make the most of our time here and we have. It’s our first time in this area and we are definitely coming back to see some more!
“We knew after that first day that we had to take a different approach, and treated it like a series of long training days. The full course was well beyond us, but we’ve taken part and done as much as we could and had a fantastic time.
Team Spartans were all smiles on the finish line, happy to have made it and looking forward to some comforts. “We’ve made a list of all the things we want to do like get burger and chips, said Mark Zambarda. “I want a shower and then another shower! said Chris Allen.See All Event Posts
