Goldrush 24 Adventure Race
Eight hours in and the race is spreading out
Greg Yetter / 02.03.2007

Rock Creek Outfitters has taken an early lead by arriving at PL4 at 1844 less than 6 hrs 45 since the race start. They have their work cut out for them as they ride and trek in an area know as Pine Logs. Here teams have more than enough CP’s to keep them busy. The race is designed so that no team can retrieve all the CP’s in the allotted time. Teams will have to keep an eye on the time so as not to incur a penalty for late arrival at the finish line. Rock Creek Outfitters has several teams close behind, OutSpokin’/Enduraventure left TA 3 at 1617 followed by Black Dome at 1626 and teams Checkpoint Zero/GoLite and Checkpoint Zero/GoLite II at 1637 as well as Secret Squirrel out of TA 3 at 1646.There are seventeen teams that have check into TA 3 but not yet arrived at PL4. They are Team Rivercrest, Random Paths, Team NADS/Cycleworks, RSG, Harpeth Racing, TBD, OutSpokin’/Enduraventure, Mad Red Sand, WTF, Inertia, Redline, Northside and Sport Factory. In between TA 2 and TA 3 are 7 teams in the middle of the pack. They are Odyssey Adventure Racing, Oakwood Homes, Not lost…exploring, CURBappeal, Rabbit Branch Racing, Bill Buckalew and Budget Brakes. During this leg teams are mountain biking to Pine Logs to begin the trekking section.
Still on the race course somewhere between TA1 and TA 2 there are 11 teams racing. They are Y R WEE HERE, El Toro Rojo, AdventureSports Institute, Hose Draggers, Go To 11, Lion Chasers, Charlie Mike, FUBAR Racing, Are we there yet?, Me, Pete & Repeat and Two Braves and a Lightbulb. On this leg teams are paddling on Lake Allatoona with very few CP’s to find. However the wind and current convinced most teams to try their luck with a portage to the TA. The strategy worked as all the teams in the front half of the race pack did just that.
Several teams are getting penalized for missing mandatory gear at impromptu gear checks out on the course. Tonight racers will have a clear sky overhead which is preferable to rain. However the low temps are expected to be in the low 30’s with westerly winds up to 10 mph.See All Event Posts
