Raid the North Extreme Finally Announced - WORD!

13.04.2006
Frontier Adventure Racing Inc (Frontier), Canada’s premier adventure racing company, and Tourism Prince Rupert, the destination marketing organization for Prince Rupert, BC, announced today that the 2006 edition of the internationally acclaimed expedition race Raid the North Extreme will be hosted in Prince Rupert from September 3-9, 2006.

The island community of Prince Rupert - “Where Canada’s Wilderness Begins” - will provide race organizers with a course canvas that promises to surpass previous RTNX races. Competitors will leave their breath behind as they experience coastal rainforest, sheer-cliffed fjords, unending inlets, high rocky ridgelines, sandy beaches, and fascinating ghost towns. The history, the people, and the many moods of British Columbia’s North Coast will capture the imagination of participants.

This is a place where eagles, bears, and whales outnumber people. An area with over 10,000 years of First Nations history. Prince Rupert lies at the heart of the traditional territory of the Tsimshian First Nation. For countless generations Tsimshian communities presented the familiar line of post and beam cedar houses along the forest\'s edge in sheltered bays, with magnificent canoes drawn up on the beach and tall crest poles telling the story of each family.

Towering Totem Poles can be found throughout the region, as BC’s North Coast boasts an incredible collection of standing totems. Regional history and legends will provide much of the inspiration for the course that will be laid out for teams through this harsh, vast and stunning landscape.

Co-ed teams of four are expected to travel to the race from all corners of Canada and the US, as well as Australia, New Zealand, the UK and South America. Over 6 days, co-ed teams of four will navigate a 500km+ expedition by canoe, kayak, mountain bike, fixed ropes, and on foot. Frontier provides teams with a true wilderness expedition experience: armed with maps and a compass, they must select their own routes between checkpoints, often navigating more than 75kms with no course markings. Only magnetic north and a sense of adventure will guide their way.

Registration is now open online at www.RaidTheNorth.com.

Registration is $4500 CDN per team, with online credit card payment available. Teams that register quickly will receive a pleasant surprise – the first 10 teams to register will get early pricing of $3995 CDN.
