Team up for BARC 2003
Rob / 04.02.2003

Full details of the rules and regulations will be on the new web site by next week at the latest, but here’s a quick preview of the significant information.
Races and Dates
These are as follows:
QuestARS - Devon. 3rd/4th May
ACE Races - Northern England. 7th/8th June
Irish Championship Final - Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. 2nd/3rd August
Salomon X-Adventure - Wales. 30th/31st August
ACE Race 30 Hour - South Scotland. 13th/14th September
BARC Final - North Wales. 27th Sep/1st Oct
The changes from 2002 are that the One.Tel Hebridean Challenge and Adrenalin Rush drop out and are replaced by two new events. Adrenalin Rush was only ever intended to be a stop-gap after the collapse of the Blue Eskimo series and Hebridean Challenge wanted to pursue their own TV deal outside of the series on BARC planned by Dream Team Television.
The new races are both organised by Race Directors well known to British racers though. The Irish Championship Final is another Brian Elliot/Adventure Sports One production taking place at Enniskillen, venue for the last Adrenalin Rush, and the new 30 hour linear ACE Race is also included, and is the Scottish venue for the series. Both will help fill the gap left by the loss of the Blue Eskimo races by providing continuous overnight competition.
The stage race format for the first final was so successful it’s not going to be changed much. It will once again allow teams of all abilities to compete by providing options and short cuts and take place in North Wales.
Points and Rankings
Perhaps the most significant change is that there will be a new points scoring system in which all the series races (including the final) are equal. The idea of winning teams going through to the Final from qualifying races has been dropped, though the winning teams will get a significant reduction on the entry fee for the final.
