Reunion d’Aventures - Collateral War Damage
Rob / 21.03.2003

GFC have issued the following statement;
“With six weeks to go until the planned dates for \" Reunion d Aventures \" the international situation is becoming increasingly tense and the risk of war involving numerous countries either directly or indirectly is intensifying.
Gerard Fusil Consultants, in consultation with the Tourist Board of La Reunion and the Nouvelles Frontieres group, have therefore decided, for moral as well as practical reasons, to postpone the organization of the event. The teams who have registered agree with this decision.
The first Reunion d Aventures will take place, exceptionally, during the third week of September with a starting time of six a.m. on 14th September 2003 and registration will continue until 31st July 2003. From 2004, however, the event will take place in May every year as originally planned.â€
Gerard Fusil, who started the Raid Gauloises, and who works in journalism and television knows better than anyone the need for good media coverage to secure sponsorship, and made the following comment:
“We have special agreements with French TV and media companys to air \"Réunion d\'Aventures\". We’ve been working hard on this and are proud to say there has been really good interest from the media. In these conditions, having the trust of the media and of the competitors for this new event, with a new concept, I don’t want to risk going ahead with the media competition of one of George Bush who currently monopolises a good media audience! So, we are a collateral victim.â€
â€However, the victim is alive and pretty fit. The competitors are generally very happy with my decision and some more want to join us next September. Maybe the war will be finished soon, but even so I do not think that the \"news storm\" will stop before the end of April.â€
