Accelerate Strengthen their Squad

Team Accelerate has ambitious plans for the domestic season and have quietly started to make an impression with podium finishes at many events. They have a depth of squad that has allowed them to enter more than one team into events and despite early season injuries to key members, (Ifor Powell and John Cunningham), they have still had the resource for top three placings. This was shown most recently when they took 2nd, 3rd and 5th places at the Edinburgh Rat Race – an impressive team result.

Two new signings in particular have raised eyebrows. Welsh International Mountain Runner, Tim Higginbottom, recently joined the Team. As a solo entrant at the recent Ace Race 2 Day event it was commented his effort was the ‘Performance of the Weekend’ as he notched 2848 points and a fast time. This came off the back of a superb performance at the Broughton in Furness Open 5 where he came close to clearing the course.

Tim said, “Team Accelerate has offered me a great opportunity for me to try new challenges and to become part of a very promising set-up. I am particularly looking forward to the Team’s cream-bun eating competition at the next training weekend”.

Caroline Bullard is another recent signing and until now, unknown in adventure racing circles. Caroline has a background in multi sport events and has represented Great Britain for Modern Pentathlon. Recently she raced at the Broughton in Furness Open 5 (mixed pairs) with the experienced Eddie Winslow. They finished in second place and Eddie commented, “I had heard a lot about Caroline from the last team training weekend and I was wandering if she was as fast as people were saying? I’m still not sure if I slowed her down…”.

As to racing for the rest of the year the team is looking closely at the domestic season with a view to improving on an already bright start. “I can assure you that the squad is very pleased with the start made to this season,” said team manager Stuart Hale, “yet there is an underlying restlessness that we are capable of so much more. We have enjoyed the podium positions, but there is nothing like winning”.
