1000km On the Trapper Trail

News Release / 01.09.2006
Starting on September 9th, the 3rd Raid World Championship will present almost 1000km of adventure along the old “fur route”, made famous by early trappers.

Through dense forests, across majestic lakes, along sheer cliffs and a fabulous fjord, 26 of the world’s top adventure-racing teams will intensify both their physical and psychological efforts as they compete for victory amidst the splendours of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean region.

“Although this course is less ‘trek oriented’ than last year’s, it will never be completely flat,” warns race director Sylvain Thuault when hinting at what awaits the teams in Canada’s province of Quebec, on a course laid out around the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean region.

After the alpine peaks in 2005, the Raid World Championship will allow some of the world’s best teams to discover the splendours of a region that abounds in lakes and rivers. Bathed in an autumnal glow, which will surely serve to accentuate the sporting heroism involved, the raiders will undertake a score of sections disputed, in the main, aboard canoes, sea-kayaks and mountain-bikes. A smattering of trail sections and rope works will also punctuate the course that covers 980km and includes 15,000m of elevation gain.
