Anaconda Adventure Race, WA

Not just a race for elite athletes, 800 other competitors of all shapes and sizes will be toeing the start line after the race is officially opened by the honourable Mark McGowan. The youngest competitor is 13 and the eldest 60; all will be looking to satisfy their outdoors addiction by taking on the challenging course that comprises a 1.9km 2XU ocean swim, 12km Keen coastline run, 20km Jamis mountain bike (including caving segment!), 13km Enervit ocean paddle and 2km Be Active beach run.

Part of a National Series of Anaconda Adventure Races with races in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and WA, the location at Dunsborough was chosen for the spectacular landscape and challenging off-road attributes that will tantalise the senses of all competitors. Busselton Shire, EventsCorp and Healthway have all been instrumental in securing the prestigious event for the region.

As a sport that appeals equally to Surf Ironmen, Triathletes and off-road/outdoors enthusiasts, the favourite going into the race is 3 times surf ironman series winner Guy Andrews. Fresh from his win in the opening race of the Anaconda Series at the Gold Coast last month Guy says “I can’t wait to see the course, I’ve heard the run is one of the toughest 12km runs anywhere in the world so that leg could very well decide the winner of the race. Looking at the list of competitors, there are a lot of very accomplished WA athletes there who I’ve never raced before so I really don’t know who to look out for!”
