Among the competitors are Dee Caffari, who set a world record by becoming the first solo female to circumnavigate the globe, non-stop, against the prevailing winds and currents. She leads an all female team including Helen Reeves, the first British female canoeist to win an Olympic medal, Rachael Cadman who has raced with the Lloyds TSB team in the Microsoft Challenge, and leading businesswomen Christina Domecq, who co-founded IT company Spinvox.
The team are using the race in preparation for the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge, a 6-day charity adventure race that takes place next month. It was set up by Formula One racing driver Mark Webber to raise funds for children’s and cancer charities, and attracts many well-known participants.
Webber will also be racing at the weekend as part of his preparation and today (Oct. 12th) announced his team for the Pure Tasmania Challenge. He will be joined by British rower and Olympic dual gold medallist James Cracknell OBE, Australian ironman and multi-sport athlete Guy Andrews, and Tasmanian adventure racer Matt Dalziel.
