Rob / 11.11.2003

The race is the biggest in Brazil, takes place between November 21st to 30th and seems well supported, with major sponsors Fiat, and Vivo, and a US$10,000 prize for the winning team. As it’s taking place in an protected area entry was limited to 45 teams, with 10 places saved for invited visitors.
A full team list isn’t available yet but the organisers say Montrail and Earthlink from the USA will be there, Iiro Kakko will lead a team from Finland, Daniel Poirier will captain Endurance Adventure from Canada and Antonio de la Rosa of Spain will also bring a team. Others are expected from France, Costa Rica and New Zealand.
They’ll be competing on a 7 day course over 460 kms, which includes many rope stages, caving and ride n’run. If the course designers have made the most of the setting at Chapada Diamantina, which is located in Bahia, in northeast Brazil it’s going to special. The area is a National Park and is said to be one of the most beautiful places in the country, with an amazing landscape and a rich local folklore. The pictures tell the story.
You find out more about the race here and we’ll be carrying news as it happens.
