A Winter Expedition

The Bergson Winter Challenge, the only multi-day winter race in the world, and an ARWorld Series event, has announced dates for 2007.

This year’s race will take place from Feb. 25th to March 4th in the Karkonosze mountains of South West Poland. The main event is the 450km Masters Race, a non-stop 5 day race including trekking, mountain biking, snow shoeing, skiing, and special challenges. These always include many ropes sections (sometimes with bikes) and caving, and the severe winter weather is guaranteed. Two years ago the temperature dropped to –20C …

Entry to the Masters event costs from 800 Euro to 1200 Euro depending on when the entry is made (the sooner its done the cheaper the price) and whether the team has previously taken part in the race. There is 10.000 Euro value of prizes on offer and a coveted free place in the ARWorld Championships in Scotland in May for the winners.

Alongside the Masters race there is also a shorter ‘Speed Race’ for pairs. This covers 150km over 2 days and does not include cross-country skiing, but it’s still an exceptionally demanding competition.
