Odyssey Adventure Racing and National College Partner for the OAR Sprint Series
Press Release / 23.12.2006

The Sprint Series, known officially as the “National College Sprint Series Adventure Races†will consist of four 6-hour-long adventure races that will take place in January, May, July, and October of 2007.
Odyssey Adventure Racing trained the National College team for the 2006 BG US Challenge and provided National College’s team with the necessary mountain biking, paddling and navigation skills that allowed National College to place 16th overall out of 47 in the BG US Challenge, held in the Roanoke Valley in October, 2006. As part of the training, the team competed in three Odyssey Adventure Races. “Adventure Racing was ideal training for the US Challenge,†says National College President Frank Longaker, “and we want to bring this exciting sport to the forefront. It’s hard physically and mentally, but is a great team builder. And good team work can be applied in all aspects of life and business.â€
Odyssey Adventure Racing President Ronny Angell adds, “Odyssey’s excited to have National College sponsor our sprint adventure race series. It’s a good fit - National College helps ordinary people achieve extraordinary things through education in a number of career-related fields, to enhance their way of life. Odyssey strives to achieve the same goal of helping ordinary people achieve extraordinary things in an outdoor environment, to challenge themselves to do things they thought were impossible, which puts a new perspective on life.â€
Adventure racing is a multi-discipline sport. The disciplines include but are not limited to orienteering, mountain biking, running, paddling and rope skills such as rappelling and ascending. Triathlons typically include running, swimming and cycling, normally along a marked course. Adventure Racers plot their own course using maps and compasses and rely on their navigation skills to complete races in a set amount of time.
