Open Adventure Expands with new Open12 to Complete Endurance Series
05.01.2007

The Open12 bridges a gap between the popular Open5 series of 5-hour events, and the more challenging Open24 race.
“We wanted to create an event that allows competitors a logical step onwards from the Open5\'s, giving a taster of longer adventure races†says organiser James Thurlow. “At the same time it allows us to build in all the fun bits - abseiling, canyoning, white water paddling & big mountains - that give the Open24 its unique characterâ€.
The event is for male, female and mixed pairs and takes place on 23/24rd June in the Yorkshire Dales. As usual, early entries before March 1st attract a discount on the entry fee.
James is also working hard on building participation in the Open series. “Our aim for 2006 was to get Open5 competitor numbers over 200 and the last event attracted 230. This year we want to raise numbers to 300 per eventâ€, says James. The next Open5 is on the 21st January at Hebden Bridge.
On the popular Open24 race James comments, “For us it’s a pretty special race incorporating all the ‘trouser-fillers’ that many people expect in a true AR event, plus a little bit extra. It’s certainly proved a real hit with competitors, with word-of-mouth increasing participation each year.â€
Don’t forget that for the truly committed, the hotly-contested Endurance Series consists of an Open5 event, the Open12 and Open24. You can get a \'score on the board\' by heading for the first race at Hebden Bridge in a couple of weeks time.
