Wan Dae Goes Off -Shore

23.02.2007
Details of this year’s 2007 Scottish Adventure Racing Series have been announced and following last years successful debut the series will once again be visiting Drumlanrig Castle and the Pentland Hills, near Edinburgh, with the third venue being on the Isle of Arran.

Wan Dae racing is aimed primarily at novices and intermediates (but is still a good test for experienced racers) and teams can enter the 5 hour ‘Simply Blended’ class or the 8 hour ‘Cask Strength’ class. The aim is to collect as many checkpoints as possible in that time on bike, on foot, and by achieving a number of different surprise activities.

These might involve navigation, getting wet, a bit of brainwork to solve some problems or something else sure to raise a laugh or two. Kayaking is one of these optional activities, which allows those that would rather give it a miss to stick to dry land.

The race format will now be on a score system (where teams can pick and choose their own route), so navigation, route choice and knowing your own abilities all come to the fore. With the new format in place all races in the series will now count towards series prizes and entry is open to teams of 2,3 or 4 with prices at £30 per head for ‘Simply Blended’ and £35 per head for ‘Cask Strength’.

All the 2007 races will take place within easy reach of the Central Belt of Scotland and the planning team are very keen to show how much of an adventure can be had on the doorsteps of Scotland’s major cities.

Beginning on 14th April, the series returns to Drumlanrig Castle, 15 minutes from the M74 motorway south of Glasgow. This stunning location was a favourite location in 2006 and is sure to get the series off to a great start again. The home of the Duke of Buccleuch, the castle provides a grand backdrop to an area resplendent with some of the most beautiful scenery South of the Highlands. It can be easily reached from the North of England as well as the Central Belt, so should appeal to a wide audience thirsty for some early season action.
