The North Lincolnshire Adventure Challenge

Paul Carvill / 04.06.2007
Sunday the 27th May saw competitors from all over some as far away as Germany to compete in The North Lincs Adventure Challenge. The Falcon North Lincolnshire Adventure Challenge is an adventure race which is run annually on the last Sunday of May. There are three disciplines consisting of:
a 36 kilometre cycle race on the roads around Brigg, two laps in a canoe or kayak around the Brigg \'Island\' and a 10K trail run finishing in Brigg Market Place. The weather was a complete turn around from last year’s heat wave and saw the rain and wind get steadily stronger as the day went on. This did not stop the many supporters who came to cheer on the athletes who definitely did not let their spirits get dampened.

Returning two time winner Keith Longney overcame the harsh conditions and went on to win the event for the third time. Mat Oliver from Lincoln Canoe Club took a well deserved second place, beating top local guy Keith Lings into 3rd place. Silke Harenberg from Germany took the Ladies victory ahead of local lady Debbie Drinkall who put in a sterling performance. Phil Wilkinson was the 1st Vet 40 Male and John Pettinger was the 1st Vet 50 Male. Sue Crossland was the 1st Vet 40 Female. SSJ took the team honours.

Race Director Ken Collier thanked all the competitors, marshalls and sponsors for making such a great race. He also thanked the new committee for 2007 Debbie Tomlinson, Debbie Drinkall, Jason Frary, Paul Armstrong and Paul Carvill, for the planning and execution of the event. This was especially challenging as most of the committee also competed. Last week also saw the launch of Lincolnshire Quadrathlon Club which is open to anyone interested in getting involved in the world of multi-sport.

President of the World Quadrathlon Association Allan Billard also took opportunity at the presentation to give The Brigg Bomber event, World Cup Status. The Brigg Bomber is on the 1st July and is a quadrathlon which involves a 1500 metre open water swim at Market Rasen, 40 kilometre cycle time trial back to Brigg, 8 kilometre kayak and finishes with a 10 kilometre run.
