500 km in 5 days

Jacqueline Windh / 06.06.2007
After a one-year break, the seventh edition of Colombia’s La Travesia Max Bosi is back, and just over one month away.

This five-day expedition race is organized by two of Colombia’s top racers, Jorge Diego Llanos and Luisa Fernanda Ríos, both members of team Bosi Colombia. As experienced world-class racers, the two are known for putting on well organized events with interesting and challenging routes. They have now been running the La Travesia Max Bosi 5-day non-stop expedition race for seven years, and last year they added the 7 Cerros Medellín Urban Adventure staged race to their repertoire.

La Travesia Max Bosi will take place from July 14-21 this year (and keep your eyes on SleepMonsters for an announcement about 7 Cerros Medellín, which will take place October 13-15 this year). Mixed teams of four (plus two support crew) have up to 5 days to complete La Travesia’s 500 km route. Disciplines include mountain biking, hiking, paddling, ropes, in-line skating, and orientation.

The Travesia’s route is different each year, and this race offers international competitors a chance to get an intimate inside glimpse of a country that is otherwise quite difficult for visitors to access. This year’s race will take place in the country’s Eastern Plains. “This will be our seventh year running the Travesia, which passes through Colombia’s most incredible locations,” explains Race Director Jorge. “The winner the last two years running has been the Spanish team captained by Antonio de la Rosa.”

Although few Colombian AR teams can afford to travel internationally, AR is a big sport here, and the locals have repeatedly shown foreign teams that they can provide them with some pretty stiff competition.

The entry fee for foreign teams is $US1000. Although the website www.aventuramax.com/travesia_home.php is in Spanish, Jorge and Luisa speak excellent English and welcome email inquiries: info@aventuramax.com. The website also has a section for racers looking for team-mates (click on “Busco Equipo”).
