Team Saab Salomon Take on the Mountain-X
Tim Lloyd / 29.06.2007

The race will be different form any other race the team has contended with a new format never tried before in an Adventure Race. Each of the five days of racing has its own theme, with a common link of a trail running race every day. Day 1 is Mountain biking, day 2 high mountaineering, day 3 will be whitewater based, day 4 will be spent climbing, caving and canyoning with the final day being the sting in the tail with a 12 hour adventure run to the finish.
Team Saab Salomon is confident and have prepared well for the challenge. The team will be led by captain Phil Davies, who is joined by Saab Salomon veteran Ben Bardsley and 2006 team member Chris Near. Support will be from manager Tim Lloyd and team physio Cheryl Frost.
“We think the format of the race will suit us†said team captain Phil Davies, “We are all from a running background so we hope to be right up at the front of the race with the other top teamsâ€.
Team manager Tim Lloyd added “This is the only adventure race that the Saab Salomon team will be contesting in 2007 as our main focus is on trail running races, so we might not be quite as well rehearsed as some of the other top teams. However, we hope that our experience will see us through and we expect to cause a surprise as we probably won’t be at the top of the betting stakesâ€.
The race starts next Monday in Morzine France and will finish on Saturday at La Clusaz. More information is available from www.mountainxrace.com and SleepMonsters will be covering the race with daily reports.
