(20 October 2007) - Eighteen countries will be represented at the Sahara Race ( Egypt) 2007 which begins 28 October in an area known as the &#39;White Desert.&#39; In the hottest place on Earth, competitors will traverse large expenses of open desert with nothing in sight but sand. Archeological sites will also mark sections of the course where competitors will get to see mummies in their natural resting place. For the third time, competitors will finish in front of The Sphinx at the Pyramids of Giza.
Another international and diverse group of competitors will be competing in the Sahara Race with ages ranging from 24 &ndash; 67. The United Kingdom represents the largest field of competitors. However, competitors from Asia total nearly half the field with the largest contingent in Asia hailing from Korea with fifteen. The field also includes Canadian Mark D. Tamminga, the champion of the Gobi March ( China) 2007 and the Atacama Crossing (Chile ) 2006, and Italian Laura Corti, a top finisher in the Gobi March ( China) 2007 and Atacama Crossing (Chile ) 2007. If Mark is able to place first in the Sahara Race (Egypt ) 2007, he will become the first in the world to have won three 4 Deserts events.

Alex M. Cooper, the Event Director of the 4 Deserts commented: &#39;We are excited to be returning to the Sahara Desert of Egypt for our eleventh 4 Deserts event. This year&#39;s field represents a continued growth in competitors from Asia , an excellent addition to the field normally dominated by competitors from North America and Europe. We are also excited to be using new technologies to bring the competitors&#39; experience closer to their friends, family and colleagues.&#39;

The Pepsi Cola Company ( Egypt) AquaFina brand of mineral water will be providing 8000 liters of water for the Sahara Race ( Egypt) 2007. RacingThePlanet will again be using a range of high quality products from Brunton and Gerber Legendary Knives in the Sahara Race including stoves, solar panels, multi-tools and shovels, among other products.

RacingThePlanet will be further enhancing its live website broadcast by providing wireless Internet access from all checkpoints enabling competitors to send emails, blogs and review results live from the heart of the Sahara Desert . Nokia N800 Internet tablets will be provided in the &#39;tea tent&#39; where competitors can rest, enjoy mint tea and get connected to the outside world.
