Ronny Angell and the team of Odyssey Adventure Racing has put together a great lineup of events for 2008. The already tough Endorphin Fix is back and to make sure the race lives up to its name they have added an extra day of racing. The EFix as it is known to those who have raced it will be held on April 24-27 in West Virginia. The race website has this explanation for the added day, “The EFIX will expand to a 3-day expedition style race to fulfill the constant requests from racers across the country to have an epic and challenging expedition race that requires a lower financial and time commitment than that of a full 7day or longer event.†During the 3 days of racing teams will travel over 200 miles. In the rugged terrain of West Virginia racers will mountain bike, trek, rappel, ascend, orienteer and whitewater paddle and swim in Class II/III rapids. Registration will begin on November 12, 2007. The race is part of the 2008 Checkpoint Tracker National Point Series and will count toward the purse of $6,000.
The Odyssey Adventure Racing Academy is slated for May 18-24 in the New River Gorge of West Virginia. This is the longest running adventure racing school in America. There is a 4 or 6 day option for students with the 6 day class culminating with the Wild Wonderful 24 Adventure Race. During this academy students will utilize both classroom instruction and hands on practice of navigation/orienteering, fixed ropes (rappelling and ascending), mountain biking and white/flat water paddling/swimming. Students will also learn about racing, physical training, race strategy, team dynamics and outdoor survival skills. Instructors for the academy this year include Joy Marr, Ronny Angell, Luther Papenfus, Shari Hymes, Mary Sheerer, Shawn Greinier and Julia Pollock. Registration for the academy opens November 12, 2007.
