2007 VAUDE Highland Fling has been Flung

The event, which doubles as the Australian MTB Marathon Championship, attracted 1300 entrants (the entry limit) with some 1200 actually starting. Some of those no shows, perhaps expecting a wet and muddy day, will be regretting the fact they missed a superb day in the saddle.

Results

Defending Champion, Shaun Lewis managed to hold onto his title in the Full Fling by a mere 6 seconds from ACT rider Dylan Cooper. Not bad after 110km of racing! Shaun\'s time was 4:22:47. Adrian Jackson from Victoria was 3rd in 4:22:32, 4 seconds ahead of Mathew Fleming. In the Women\'s race, Rowena Fry from Tasmania took the title with a time of 5:31:07 ahead of 2006 winner Katrin Van Der Spiegel (5:43:31) with Rosemary Barnes in 3rd in 5:52:44.

Both Shaun Lewis and Rowena Fry are declared the Australian MTB Marathon Champions and can proudly wear the Maillot Tartane, the tartan jersey until next year.

In the 100Mile Fling (161km), Dennis Van Mil from Port Macquarie once again showed his endurance abilities by taking the title in 8:05:34 ahead of Andrew Fellowes (8:34:48) and Craig Armour (9:10:30).

In the 55km Half Fling Brian Price won the Mens overall in a time of 2:16:48 ahead of Time Bateman (2:19:30) and David Coward (2:25:44). Zoe King crossed the line as first woman in 2:44:02 with Clare Haugh (2:50:37) 2nd and Maria Papadopoulos (2:54:31) in 3rd.
