First edition of Transmexicana Mountain Bike Race coming this February
Jacqueline Windh / 23.11.2007

The US$1300 registration fee covers everything you would expect, plus quite a bit more, from the moment racers arrive in Mexico City. In addition to the usuals - ground transport, meals and lodging – also covered are specialist mechanic support and bike cleaning at the end of each race day, and massages!
Accommodation will be in a mixture of hotels and set-up camps. About the meals, organizers note that “Your nourishment is very important to us, and the balanced menu that we will provide, which has been revised by professional nutritionists, will make sure that your performance does not suffer at all along the route.†Food and sports drinks will also be available during the race at the PCs.
Total distance will be about 700 km. This will be divided into six distinct daily stages: two long ones of about 120 km with little elevation change; 3 mountain stages of about 70 km and over 4000 m of elevation change, and one final descent from 3700 m down to the finish, which organizers state is at Mexico’s most beautiful back, and where the final closing ceremonies and dinner will take place.
A total cash prize of US$20,000 will be divided up between either three or four categories (depending upon how final enrolment works out). In addition, there will be daily prizes for stage winners in the form of products from RockShock and other sponsors. Organizers indicate that there will also be good television coverage of this event.
