24 Hours of Costa Rica Adventure Race 2007

Brenda J. Kelly / 15.12.2007
24 Hours of Costa Rica is an annual 24-hour race that traverses the volcanos, jungles and rivers of wild Costa Rica. It is organized by Coast to Coast Adventures, www.coasttocoastadventures.com

7 nationalities competed for the 2007 24 Hours of Costa Rica Adventure Race, organized by Coast to Coast Adventures

Categories for Racers were split between Pro and Sport, with the Pro category undertaking a challenging route of 175 kilometers and the Sport category covering 138 kilometers. Of course with missed directions and searching for Way Point Boxes, teams actually covered much more than this. Aside from the challenge itself, the route was also designed with the main attractions of the Arenal area in mind and so local and international teams would have the opportunity to appreciate this beautiful area of Costa Rica.

For the Pros, the first trekking section had teams hiking out of La Fortuna towards the picturesque hotel of Lomas del Volcan where there is an entrance to Cerro Chato which is part of the volcanic chain that is Arenal. Cerro Chato’s activity ceased some 3,500 years ago but now houses a 500m wide bright green lake-filled summit crater to reach the first Waypoint Box (WPB). First to arrive was Elok, followed by three other Costa Rica teams, RS Digital, Rancho Margot and Caribe,

In the Sport division an early panic by Hamneggers (get it …. Ham and Eggs!) having lost their Passport was not to faze this two person team. Passport found, they were off to meet their first activity at the Pure Trek Canyon where teams rappelled the 55m alongside the tumbling waterfall where a WPB was located. First to the rappel was the Costa Rican team of Fundacion CR –Canada. Armeria Polini was the second Sport team to arrive.
