25% Off Entry for 2008 Yak Attack Before the New Year

The Berghaus Yak Attack, organized by Extreme World Challenges and taking place on March 6- 16, commences a series of multi-sport stage races being held in Nepal during 2008.

Word is out that this runner versus mountain bike race, held around the Annapurna circuit, is THE event to take part in and has already attracted a strong Nepali contingent to compete alongside a growing international field.

Surendra Rai, riding for TorqFitness, is in top form having just won the 7th Bagmati Eco Challenge, but he will face tough competition from Phudorjee Lama Sherpa, sponsored by Peregrine Adventures(Aus) and First Ascent UK. Phudorjee recently won the Annapurna Mandala marathon and narrowly missed 1st place in this year’s 444km Himal stage race.

Others local athletes to watch will be up and coming mtb’er Ajay Pandit, a 19yr old bike mechanic from Kathmandu, riding for Creative Mapping, and Nirjala Tamrakar, the first female to represent Nepal at the Asian games and the country’s premier female mountain biker.

Also, unconfirmed as yet, but eagerly awaited, are the entries from Hari Rokaya, former Everest Marathon and Yak Attack winner and Dorjee Pemba Sherpa, Everest speed climb record holder. Both of these athletes are equally capable of breaking the 24 hour and 5 minute record for the course and keeping the Yak Attack title with the runners.

Profits from this annual event will be used to promote and finance sports related tourism in the Annapurna region with an aim to creating a sustainable income for the residents of this impoverished area.

There are still places available for international participants, and for the month of December organizers are offering a 25% reduction off the complete race package, bringing the total entry fee down to £745 for balances paid before 31/12/07.
