Terra Traverse Québec’s wilderness course

02.03.2008
Missoula, MT- Terra Traverse is thrilled to be partnered with the stunning Province of Québec and racers should expect nothing short of an extremely challenging course in a setting unmatched in natural wonders. From October 4th through October 10th seventy five co-ed teams of four will journey through a land of craters, fjords, canyons, waterfalls, mountain ranges, caves, endless rivers, ocean and lakes. Whether racing in pursuit of the inaugural Terra Traverse title, or looking to conquer physical and mental limits for personal achievement, Terra Traverse Québec promises to be an epic adventure for all.

Located at the northeastern tip of North America, Québec covers 643,819 square miles. That’s three times the size of France, leaving plenty of surprises and unlimited opportunities for adventure when Terra Traverse Québec hits the ground (and water and rock…) in October!

With its entire southern portion dissected by the St. Lawrence, one of the largest rivers in the world, Québec is graced with an incredible variety of landscapes: fertile fluvial plain, wide swaths of forest, taiga and tundra, over a million lakes, thousands of rivers, rugged peaks and mountain ranges.

A highlight of Terra Traverse Québec will be the phenomenally scenic setting on the coastline where racers will not only enjoy traveling along the near vertical granite cliffs rising 1,500 feet from cobalt blue waters, but a unique and spellbinding wildlife experience. Québec offers Terra Traverse Québec participants the opportunity to race through waters that are home to nine species of whales, including a rare sanctuary for the endangered beluga.

Watching a whale burst through the water's surface is a fascinating and unforgettable sight. This exceptional experience will be one of many that Terra Traverse Québec racers take home from the journey. Québec is one of the few places in the world where you can see such a wide variety of large sea mammals (13 species in all). The blue whale, the most imposing animal on Earth, lives in the waters of the St. Lawrence along with fin whales and humpback whales (known for their exuberant leaps through the air). In addition to these two giants, racers may enjoy the company of porpoises and dolphins as they push their limits on an exceptionally challenging, albeit visually inspiring, course.

Another highlight of Terra Traverse Québec will be its inclusion in the 400th anniversary of Québec City. Few North American cities can commemorate so rich a history and Terra Traverse Québec racers, staff and sponsors will experience this celebration first hand as Terra Traverse Québec will conclude with an awards ceremony and festivities in the heart of the action. Hosted by Québec City and Tourism Québec, Terra Traverse Québec will culminate with a cultural and historical soirée!

Racers should visit www.terratraverse.com to access online registration and secure one of the limited spots.
