ARWS Estoril Portugal XPD 2008
Alexandre Guedes da Silva (APCA – Portugal) / 18.03.2008

This year\'s race will be very difficult and challenging. It’s designed to explore the amazing Southwest coast of Europe and its magnificent cliffs, beaches and sand dunes, which look rather like the shores of the north African desert.
It will be a full non-stop 96 hour race (around 600 km), with more than 12 different sports involved ranging from mountain biking to kayak surfing. The technical skills needed for the race are moderate but a good level in most of them is required to make a difference in the final result.
Again this year, the athletes’ will have excellent cartography (several maps will be presented at 1:15000 and 1:20000 Orienteering ISSOM scales). This will raise the degree of complexity of navigation through the very tricky and difficult Mediterranean forest.
The human environment of the race will be improved by the presence of a mandatory support team and by the quality of the different Transition and Assistance Arenas along the course. The spectator points and the flash interview areas will give the race better coverage both for everybody on location and for those following the race in cyberspace.
The entry fee is divided into several components to allow the teams to make their own plans and benefit from the discounts offered by the organizers. The high quality Vila Bicuda Resort will once again host the teams, the press and the organization Head Quarters.
Compared to 2008 the prizes have been increased with two more registrations for ARWC Portugal 2009, thus ensuring the first three teams can all be present at ARWC, a unique opportunity.
Registration and more updates can be found in the race web site.
