The race is organized by AR team Touareg Turk, and the route will be centred around the East Black Sea Mountains. The format is a non-stop expedition race, expected to take competitors about 72 hours to cover the 300-350 km route, and is open for mixed and same-sex teams of two.
Disciplines include lake kayaking, trekking, mountain biking, fixed ropes, orienteering, swimming, and....mule riding! AliRiza Bilal, who is both Team Touareg Turk’s captain and Race Director of Kurtun Adventure Race, is excited about adding a new sport to AR. he notes that this is a typical means of transport for locals people from the Black Sea area, and that racers are sure to encounter some surprising experiences. He indicates that the race will pass through some challenging terrain, that will include rocks, highlands, glacier lakes, and wild rivers.
Many international racers sometimes feel that the toughest part of AR is getting yourself, your team and your gear to the starting line. Well, here is an opportunity to race in a new and little-known country, where organizers have made it as easy as it can possibly be to get there. All you need is one team-mate, and to get yourselves and your gear to Istanbul. It sounds like an amazing adventure, and SleepMonsters will be posting live coverage straight from the event.
