Kona to Sponsor ‘Land of the Yeti’ Duathlon

The eventual winner of the 5 day, 150km high altitude duathlon will receive a Kona Kula MTB and a cash prize, with cash prizes also allotted for each stage winner.
Competitors from around the world will meet in Kathmandu on October 20 before taking the 1 hour flight out to the mountain air strip at Lukla. After an 8 day trek along the Everest trail, the race proper starts in Gorak Shep, close to Everest base camp at over 5200m.
After 2 days of running a total of 50km back to Lukla, participants will collect their bikes for a further 3 days and 100km's of mountain trails, crossing 2 3000m+ passes on their way to trailhead and finish at Jiri.
This bi-annual race, run with the assistance of Dawn till Dusk MTBing (Nepal) and also supported by Torq Fitness, is the first ever duathlon to be held in this region and has attracted athletes from around the world. Not yet comfirmed but a probable entrant will be Kaji Sherpa, recent Everest summitter and winner of this years Yak Attack who will also be accompanied by a strong Nepali contingent, all vying to be the first Land of the Yeti duathlon champion.
