The Challenge of a Lifetime

News Release / 01.09.2008
Do you have the mental and physical strength to enter the ‘ultimate global race’? If so you should enter the Land Rover G4 Challenge. This adventure of a lifetime combines off-road driving with kayaking, mountain biking, abseiling, climbing and orienteering across some of the most remote and extreme terrain in the world.

Potential competitors have until 30th September to be part of the selection process currently underway to choose one man and one woman to represent the UK in the competition. The successful two-strong British team will then battle against teams from 17 other countries over the gruelling three-week Challenge Finals in one of the most sparsely populated independent country on the planet – Mongolia. A blend of terrain offering arid steppes, mountains and the extreme climate of one of the world\'s largest deserts, the Gobi, makes Mongolia the ultimate physical and mental test.

You can enter via the Land Rover G4 Challenge website and there’s a bit more information on the UK specific pages, including the dates of the selection weekend, which will be November 27-29th. This will be held at Eastnor Castle, home of The Land Rover Experience, where two men and two women will go through to the International Selections to be held in early 2009. At this competitors from all 18 participating countries will take part and the final national pairs will be picked. Those who succeed will then travel to Mongolia later in 2009 for the final competition.

Challenge manager Ed Tilston said: “Mongolia is a spectacular country which will enable us to create a truly extraordinary Finals event in 2009. Our team on the ground have been working to find routes that will push our vehicles and the competitors to their limits. We are also investigating the possibility of extending the Challenge into another area offering different extremes.\"

The 2008/09 Land Rover G4 Challenge programme is run in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This partnership aims to generate in excess of £1m over the course of the next two challenges. In addition to this, each participating nation will be raising funds in aid of their National Society and the winning team will receive a Land Rover to donate to their National Society.
