Bimbache, one of the longest running and most well known adventure races in Europe, is organized by racer Antonio de la Rosa, and the event is part of the AR World Series and one of the qualifying races for the World Championship.
The Leon and Palencia region, where the competition will take place, is one of Spain’s wildest areas. The mountains reach heights of 2500 m, and the willdlife here includes the brown bear, the mountain goat and the Iberian wolf. Aside from the alpine, water wil also form an important part of the race course - especially the rivers such as the Orbigo, the Esla, the Pisuerga and the Carrion.
Organizers indicate that the 2009 edition of Bimbache will have some new twists to it - but that the overall philosophy of adventure and challenge that has been a part of this race for the last 6 years will still be maintained. The route will be around 450 km in length, for mixed teams of 4, and will include paddling, biking, trekking and roller-blading - with racers always travelling in a way that is respectful of the environment ,and without the use of navigational aids such as GPS.
The organizers have created two different registration packages for teams:
Assistance included which includes transfers to and from the race, accommodation before and after the race, and gear transport during the race, for 2000 Euros per team (2400 Euros after Feb. 1).
Self-supported for teams who find their own accomodation and have their own support vehicle, for 1200 Euros per team (1500 Euros after Feb. 1)
Registration is limited to a total of only 25 teams - 10 Spanish and 15 foreign teams - who can apply for a spot. Successful teams will be selected by the organizers.
