Steve Gurney is an exceptional athlete and New Zealand\'s top multisport competitor. He has been in 19 of the Speight\'s Coast to Coast races and has won nine of them.

Steve Gurney was always last in his sport and races at school, but went on to be a professional athlete. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Canterbury, but in a seemingly unsustainable move, quit his job to prove something to the world in the fledgling sports of Multisport and Adventure racing. His charge was finally brought to a grinding halt in 2004 with a ruined ankle that surgery couldn\'t fix. Two years of severe depression sent Gurney on a quest for the answer to the meaning of life, how to stay motivated and what makes successful people tick.
