Bimbache Extrem 2009 Launched – It’s Going to be Wild

20.11.2008
The official presentation for journalists and public of the Bimbache Extrem Castilla y León 2009 took place on November 14th, at 6.30 p.m., in the headquarters of “Naturiva”, the most important Spanish trade fair for rural tourism, skiing and mountain sports.

The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Rosa Urbón, who holds the post of General Director for Tourism in the government of the Autonomous Region of Castilla-León. Mrs. Urbón and the Technical Director of the competition Mr. Antonio de la Rosa offered comprehensive explanations about important aspects of the next Bimbache Extrem Castilla y León.

A great number of media representatives attended the meeting in order to get first-hand knowledge of the novelties of this seventh issue of the Bimbache Extrem.

The General Manager for Tourism began the presentation by confirming that a competition like this one is very important for Castilla and León since it provides an international demonstration for tourist promotion of the adventure possibilities of both provinces, with wild unknown places whose extraordinary beauty will undoubtedly cause amazement to competitors, spectators and visitors.

After that a video was projected with images of the previous edition of the Bimbache Extrem Castilla y León bringing out the characteristic features of this multisport competition: wild nature, adventure, teamwork, overcoming of difficulties, men and women competing as equals, respect for the environment and dynamic tourism.

Following this projection the competition’s Technical Director Antonio de la Rosa gave thanks to the Government of Castilla and León for having trusted in the project and explained some technical aspects of the event.

The Bimbache Extrem Castilla y León will start from the village of Vegacervera, in the province of León, 45 kilometres away from this province’s capital city, on the 18th of May at 9.00 a.m. The finishing line will be placed at Aguilar de Campoo, a place traditionally well known due to its production of biscuits, in the province of Palencia, on the 21st and the 22nd of May.

The closing ceremony will take place in the afternoon of Friday 22nd of May, also in Aguilar de Campoo.

As far as landscape is concerned this edition will be quite beautiful with plenty of mountain sceneries and the teams will have the opportunity of enjoying the traditional hospitality of the tiny villages of the region.

The teams that succeed in getting to the finishing line will have to race at least 443 kilometres, in the best of cases and with no orientation mistakes. The mountains of Picos de Europa, Sierra de Manpodre and Montaña palentina will be watching the competitors pass through on their path to the finish.

As a novelty and for the first time in the Bimbache Extrem there will be exciting rafting descent, as well as the habitual disciplines like trekking, mountain biking, roller blading, canoeing, speleology, rappel, Tyrolean and ravine descents.
